[358] Resolution 610 (VII), Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, December 3, 1952
Source: Reprinted from American Foreign Policy, 1950–1955: Basic Documents, vol. II, pp. 2651–2654.
In the plenary session of the General Assembly on Dec. 3, the revised Indian draft was adopted by an overwhelming majority. The final version was identical with that approved in the First Committee, with one exception: an amendment adopted by a separate vote which added the phrase “so that an immediate cease-fire would result and be effected” in the paragraph requesting the President of the Assembly to communicate the proposals to the People’s Republic of China and to North Korea. The Soviet representative submitted to the Assembly amendments and a draft resolution identical to those he submitted in the First Committee, but they were rejected by the Assembly by large margins. For a report of the session, see UN document A/PV.399.
