Promptly inform British legation, for communication to Madrid Government, that certified New York manifest steamer Utopia, British, cleared August 20, shows only 1,500 bales cotton for Malaga; remainder [Page 999] of cargo is destined and cleared for Gibraltar and Italian ports, including 738 hogsheads tobacco for Genoa and Naples. Steamer now detained at Malaga. Serious loss.
