Sir: I have the honor to inform you that I am instructed by the Marquis of Salisbury to inform the United States Government, in compliance with the provisions of article 34 of the general act of Berlin, that, by a proclamation dated the 14th May last, the whole of Zululand, including the territory known as the Zulu Reserve Territory, but excluding the territory known as the New Republic, and bounded as follows: On the north and southwest by the Colony of Natal, on the west and north west by the New Republic; on the north by Amatonga land, and on the east by the Indian Ocean, was declared to be a British possession under the name of Zululand.
