Sir: With reference to your note* of the 11th ultimo, I have the honor to inform you that I am requested by the Earl of Iddesleigh to acquaint you that Her Majesty’s Government have desired the Canadian Government to furnish them with a report on the circumstances attending the alleged inhospitable treatment of United States fishing schooners Laura Say ward and Jennie Seavers by the Canadian authorities.
