Sir: Referring to the communication dated the 22d instant received from the Department of State, relative to payments made by the Chinese Government on account of Chinese indemnity due for the calendar year 1913, I have the honor to enclose herewith, for delivery, as requested by your Department, check No. 6900, of the Treasurer of the United States in the sum of $543,007.63, payable to the Charge d’Affaires of China, which sum represents the amount of such payments refundable to China as the portion of the indemnity for the calendar year 1913 remitted under the joint resolution of May 25, 1908 (35 Stat., 577).
