Sir: Referring to your Department’s letter of January 10, 1914. relative to payments made by the Chinese Government on account of the Boxer Indemnity for 1913, I have the honor to request that the portion mentioned therein as due the United States, $539,798.06, be retained by your Department, and the amount refundable to China, $543,007.63, be remitted by check, through this Department, to the Charge d’Affaires of China, Washington, D. C.
