File No. 312.51/57.
The French Chargé & Affaires to the Secretary of State.
Manchester, July 16, 1914.
I beg to thank your excellency for what the Department of State has already done in regard to French citizens imprisoned at Zacatecas. Pending the moment when the President and yourself will be able to receive me I should be greatly obliged to your excellency if he would prescribe an immediate inquest tending to ascertain the correctness of the information that reached our Legation in Mexico City concerning the murder of two French Christian Brothers, Messrs. Astru and Gilles, shot at Zacatecas on Villa’s order and if he would keep me informed of the result of that inquest.
