217. Department informed that demand has been made upon American Mining and Milling Company, owning Siglo XX, Dolores, Edwin E, Harriet M, mines, and Corwin and Green Consolidated Mining and Milling Company, owning Esperanza, Meliza and Ana Maria, mines; all located in La Luz Mineral District, Guanajuato, for repayment of taxes already paid by them to agents of Huerta administration.
Please bring to attention of General Carranza and request the issuance of orders against the exaction from these American corporations of taxes which they have already paid to persons exercising de facto authority. Since time limit for payment demanded expires August 31, orders in question should be issued immediately.
