321. Department’s 254, June 9. Embassy has made several urgent representations to Foreign Office on behalf of Ugo Da Prato during past few months. Foreign Office, May 4, stated military authorities after full investigation ruled that his father Antonio, now in Italy, reacquired Italian, citizenship under Law No. 555 of June 13, 1912, because he had returned to Italy and resided here more than two years; further, that this citizenship had been communicated to the son and consequently the son is found to be an Italian citizen and [Page 565] must perform military service.8 Embassy is continuing to press for release, but decision of military authorities in all these cases has been adverse.
