Sir: In acknowledgment of the Department’s telegram No. 257 of the 10th [11th] instant, stating that American officers in Mexico [Page 1074] have been authorized to use their good offices in that country for Turkish subjects, I have the honor to state that this information has been communicated to the Sublime Porte. This was done verbally, owing to the fact that the request which formed the subject of the Embassy’s telegram of September 21 was a verbal one.
