Sir: The Department acknowledges the receipt
of your despatch No. 143, Roumanian Series, of October 24 last,
enclosing a letter addressed to the President by His Majesty Ferdinand
in which he announced the death on October 10, 1914, of His Majesty
Carol I and his accession to the throne of Roumania.
The Department encloses herewith, with office copy, a letter addressed by
the President to His Majesty Ferdinand, King of Roumania, acknowledging
the letter transmitted with your despatch of the 24th of October.
You will forward the copy to the Foreign Office and deliver the original
in the manner most agreeable to His Majesty.

Great and Good Friend: I have received the
letter of the 17th of October last in which Your Majesty informed me
of the death, on the 10th of the same month, of your beloved uncle,
His Majesty Carol I, and your accession to the throne of
Roumania.
In expressing my sincere and heartfelt sympathy for Your Majesty and
the people of Roumania in their bereavement, I must at the same time
give utterance to the satisfaction with which I received the
announcement that you had ascended the throne, and assure Your
Majesty that your wishes for the continuance of the friendly
relations subsisting between the two countries are fully appreciated
and cordially reciprocated.
May God have Your Majesty in His safe and holy Keeping.
