The German Ambassador to the Secretary of State.

[Translation.]

Mr. Secretary of State: The Imperial Government has heard from Mexico that the Constitutionalist Government has appropriated [Page 890] to itself the warehouse of the German firm of Eversbusch with goods worth 100,000 pesos at Tampico. The Imperial Consulate at Tampico has received no reply to his protest to the said Government. Furthermore, German subjects and commercial houses are still opposed to having contributions levied upon them.

I am therefore instructed most respectfully to ask your excellency that the Government of the United States will bring its influence to bear on the Constitutionalist Government in Mexico for the protection of German subjects and firms from injustice and imposition and for the release of their property.
