8. Your wire regarding Consul Silliman. Since the second instant I have been urging Foreign Office to take action concerning release Silliman, Marchani and several other Americans imprisoned by order of General Maas. My informant states that Consulate was sacked, all archives taken, Marchani forced by troops to open safe; troops are said to have carried code with them. I feel greatly concerned about the matter and will continue most vigorous efforts to secure release of prisoners and return of code. Will advise you as soon as I ascertain the facts.
