Sill: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 12th of March, in which you inclose, with reference to a communication of 2d instant, a copy of a note from the minister of state of Spain, on the subject of the intended encouragement of the American enterprise in the Caroline Islands, having in view the well-being of the native populations there. The minister’s communication is exceedingly satisfactory, and I await with much interest the farther information which your kind note promises the Department.
