confidential

3940. January 16 Embassy Officer informed Parrott1 UN Department Foreign Office Department’s position re Chinese representation at forthcoming meeting UPU Cairo (London circular 384, January 15) and asked for British support US position.

Parrott’s preliminary reaction was that probably UK will adhere to present position of voting to seat CPC representative, adding that “he could not see UK reversing its position on that question at this time.” When Embassy queried him as to effect GA resolution September 19 and December 14, 1950 on UK position, he said that on first thought those resolutions did not appear to be sufficiently weighty to change UK point of view. He will inform other Departments Foreign Office of US position and give Embassy British Government’s considered view soonest.
