10429. Board of Trade press officer tells us that no statement of nature reported in Buenos Aires 2221, September 1997 has been issued. Associated Press asked Board of Trade for statement on Britain’s trade policy toward Argentina and Spain and was informed that it was “in line with U.S. policy as we understand it.” Board of Trade press officer however refused to comment on further questions re Brit, policy on exports to Argentina and Spain. Embtel 10110, September 2898 contains Foreign Office reaction to approach which Emb. made under instructions from Secretary re trade controls.
