The Ambassador in Iran (Murray) to the Secretary of State

607. My telegram 583, August 3. Soviet Ambassador has received instructions from Moscow on evacuation troops from Tehran.76 FonOff (Foreign Office) announces he has stated that Potsdam Conference decided on immediate withdrawal Allied Forces from city.

British Ambassador expresses concern lest Russians, who have fewer troops and little or no equipment or installations in Tehran, should withdraw more quickly than British and so get greater credit with Iranians.

Repeated to Moscow as 187 and London as 44.
