1227. Your 1474 August 17, 4 p.m. From Treasury for Gunter.
- 1)
- Treasury is now prepared to lend-lease about 5 million ounces of silver to Saudi Arabia which is what is needed to meet the coinage needs for the rest of 1943.
- 2)
- It is hoped that we can arrange to have minted in India at least the 8 million riyals necessary for the pilgrimage.
- 3)
- The lend-lease contract will be sent you in Cairo.
- 4)
- A formal request for the lend-lease of the silver should be prepared by you and may be presented for the King to sign in Saudi Arabia and the lend-lease contract may also be presented for his signature immediately after the signature of the request. Procedure previously suggested to be replaced by this procedure.
- 5)
- Saudi Arabia must bear the cost of minting the riyals and the King should be so informed.
- 6)
- Repeat to Jidda as No. 57. [Treasury.]
