General uprising here last night, heavy firing all over the city. The capital in complete possession of the revolution. The members of the Government refugees in the various legations and consulates. President Zamor fled and he is on board Dutch vessel which passed here last night from Gonaives to Petit Goave and which is expected to return this afternoon when the President’s wife and child, and [Page 355] General Charles Zamor, Minister of the Interior, propose to embark under the protection of Dominican Legation where they are now refugees. Firing still continues; much excitement and disorder, there being no constituted authority. Executive palace looted, general pillage and incendiarism feared. Presence of war vessels urgent.
