Great and Good Friend: I have received Your Majesty’s letter of the 2d of August last, in which you conveyed to me the sad tidings of the deaths on the 28th of June, of Your Majesty’s dearly beloved nephew His Imperial and Royal Highness the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand and Her Highness the Duchess of Hohenberg.
I learn with deep sorrow of the great affliction which has befallen Your Majesty and I offer to you my sincere and heartfelt condolences.
May God have Your Majesty and Your Majesty’s Family in His safe and holy keeping.
