File No. 312.62/40.

Chargé O’Shaughnessy to the Secretary of State.

[Telegram.]

720. The German Minister has just called and stated that he has received a telegram from his Consul in the city of Tepic stating that all foreigners anticipate serious trouble and possible capture of that city by so-called revolutionists. The Minister inquires if it is not possible for our Government to take some measures looking to the protection of the foreign colony in that city. His only vessel on the west coast is now at Guaymas where trouble is also anticipated. There are about thirty Americans in Tepic and it is thought that the presence of a war vessel at San Bias would afford adequate protection to the foreigners in that section.
