Consul General Hanna to the Secretary of State.
Monterey, August 5, 1914.
Sir: Referring to telegraphic instructions from the Department and my telegraphic reply thereto, I now have the honor to quote the English translation of a reply from the Minister of Foreign Relations of the Constitutionalist Government relative to the reported execution of two Christian Brothers and the imprisonment of eleven others. Secretary Fabela in his reply says:
Your courteous note of the 21st ult. was read with much interest by the First Chief of the Constitutionalist Army. In reply, I beg to advise that according to reports made by General Villa he did not order the execution of the two Christian Brothers in Zacatecas, nor the imprisonment of eleven others as reported, but he did order their expulsion.
I repeat the assurances of my distinguished consideration, etc.
