Consul Canada to the Secretary of State.

[Telegram.]

I am reliably informed that at present there are some 1,500 Americans still Mexico City, many having just arrived from surrounding [Page 680] country. My informant states that many of these Americans are desirous of leaving for Vera Cruz but understand the train which left night before last was last opportunity. In view of this have telegraphed Brazilian Minister and also communicated with Admiral Craddock requesting that steps be taken and arrangements be made for the transportation of all those who will leave to Vera Cruz as soon as possible. As we understand Department in direct communication Mexico City, respectfully suggest Department also take this matter up.
