File No. 811.0144/40.
The Brazilian Minister to Mexico to the Secretary of State.
Mexico, December 28, 1914.
257. Department’s 375, December 26, 8 p.m., was duly transcribed to Gutiérrez and Villa. Villa has just answered as follows;
I am duly informed of the contents of your letter of yesterday and the cablegram therein enclosed from the State Department at Washington.
In answer I beg to state that I am willing to accept special arrangement as arrived at in the conference held at Naco to put a stop to the danger to which the inhabitants of American territory are now exposed; but later on we must of necessity attack Hill either at Agua Prieta or at some other point designated by him to have the combat. I wish to say that the fighting will be the last in the State of Sonora and will end the present situation in said State.
