Consul Olivares to the Secretary of State.1
Managua, August 19, 1910.
Mr. Olivares states that it is confirmed that the army of the revolution yesterday defeated Madriz’s troops on the Tipitapa River and that a part of its forces crossed over to this side. Says it is reported that the revolutionary forces south of Granada have badly defeated a strong column of Madriz’s troops in that vicinity; that the public seems to be unanimous in opinion that Madriz’s power is steadily weakening and that he may be overthrown at any time. Adds that much apprehension prevails in Managua on account of the danger of an attack, as the contending armies are only 21 miles distant.
