Sir: Referring to my telegram of the 28th ultimo1 relating to an intimation from the minister for foreign affairs in regard to the date for the opening of the International Opium Confernce, and to my [Page 319] cablegram of to-day’s date,1 I have the honor to inclose herewith a copy and translation of a note, just received, from Mr. Van Swinderin, in which he advises me that the Netherlands Government proposes Wednesday, the 30th of May, 1911, as the date for the meeting of the conference in question.

Mr. Chargé d’affaires: Referring to your note of the 19th of October last, file 30020.18, I have the honor to inform you that Her Majesty’s Government proposes as date for the opening of the International Conference for Prevention of the Abuse of Opium, Wednesday, the 30th of May, 1911.

In adding that the States intending to participate in the conference have been notified of the above,
