Mr. Bacon states that the foreign office has not yet received a reply from England, but in answer to his specific question said that he might inform his Government that France would be perfectly [Page 274] satisfied to accept proposition to concede to France 100 kilometers Ch’eng-tu extension, England to satisfy them as to subengineer Hankow-Canton, France to have westernmost division of Ch’eng-tu extension.
