Sir: I inclose copies of two letters2 from Messrs. Hopkins & Hopkins, complaining of the action of the British Government in seizing, off Delagoa Bay, the steamships Mashona and Maria, both of which carried goods shipped by Messrs. Flint, Eddy & Co., of New York. You will please investigate the matter and report thereon to the Department. You will also use all proper efforts to protect the property of the American shippers.
