Sir: Referring to Mr. Vicuna’s note of January 27 last, I have the honor to state that the attorney for the heirs of Patrick Shields is pressing the Department to ascertain when payment will be made of their claim.

I have, therefore, the honor to ask that the arrangement reached may be promptly carried out by your Government.
