No. 339.
Aristarchi Bey to Mr. Evarts .

[Translation.]

Mr. Secretary of State: I have received the note which the Hon. Mr. Fish was pleased to address to me on the first instant in acknowledgment of the receipt of mine of the 19th of February last in relation to the convention concluded by M. Ferdinand de Lesseps and Colonel Stokes.

Being desirous to inform the Sublime Porte of the result of the step taken by me, which result, I trust, will be a favorable one, I should be grateful to you if you would be pleased to communicate to me, if you [Page 613] can do so without putting yourself to any inconvenience, the decision which may have been reached on this subject by the Government of the United States.

Be pleased to accept, &c.,

G. d’ARISTARCHI.
