2045. Organized “Balfour Day” demonstrations which have been occurring spasmodically during the morning in Mousky, Al Azhar [Page 806] and native districts appear to be degenerating into looting of Jewish shops and general disorder. Situation still too confused for accurate assessment but on advice of security officials have advised most of Legation staff to remain at home this afternoon.
