Memorandum of Conversation, by the Assistant Chief of the Division of Near Eastern Affairs (Kohler)
| Participants: | Greek Ambassador |
| Under Secretary | |
| Mr. Kohler (NE) |
The Greek Ambassador called at his request. He handed to Mr. Acheson the attached undated memorandum90 setting forth the claim of the Greek Government for the return of the Island of Saseno to Greek sovereignty and its argumentation that the allocation of the island should not be considered a part of the Italian settlement but should be considered as a Greek claim against Albania to be considered in connection with the question of Northern Epirus.
In this connection the Ambassador referred to a report from London published in the New York Times of Sunday, September 23, 1945, purporting to contain instructions to the American delegation in London stating, inter alia, that the Island of Saseno should go to Albania.91
