The Ambassador in Turkey (Wilson) to the Secretary of State

1450. My 1445, November 12, 4 p.m. In conversation with Prime Minister he asked whether I was satisfied with form of interim reply [Page 1278] given me by Erkin to our proposal for revision Montreux Convention or whether I would prefer a written reply. I said that Erkin had explained that his statement should be regarded as official interim reply of Turkish Govt pending receipt of views of British and Soviet Govts when a more detailed and presumably written reply would be made. Under these circumstances I said that I personally saw no reason to request any change in form of this interim reply.
