On good authority I am informed that just before leaving Turkey for Italy Guariglia, the new Italian Foreign Minister, told Vörnle, the Hungarian Minister to Turkey, that he expected to make peace soon, if terms beneficial to Italy, within the framework of the Allied unconditional surrender demand.

Guariglia asked Vörnle if his government wanted him to include Hungary in the peace negotiations. Vörnle cabled his conversation to Budapest and ask[ed] that a [reply be?1] transmitted to Rome.
