Editorial Note

No official record of the discussion during this luncheon has been found. According to the account in Alanbrooke, p. 333, from which the information set forth above has been derived, Brooke explained to Marshall his acceptance of the American offer to provide British forces in the Middle East with tanks and self-propelled guns. Concerning this American offer, see footnote 5 to the record of the meeting of the Combined Chiefs of Staff, supra.
