Editorial Note
No official record of the substance of the discussion at this meeting has been found. The information set forth above is derived from the President’s appointment calendar (Roosevelt Papers). The brief account of this meeting in Sir John Slessor, The Central Blue: The Autobiography of Sir John Slessor, Marshal of the RAF (New York: Frederick A. Praeger, 1957), p. 413, suggests a date of June 21 for this meeting. The Slessor account indicates that this meeting was preceded by a 3 p.m. White House discussion among Hopkins, Harriman, Arnold, and Slessor regarding aircraft allocation. The meeting with Roosevelt and Churchill, which Slessor says occurred at 4 p.m., was very brief and was given over to the initialling by the President and the Prime Minister of the American-British agreement for the allocation of American aircraft production. For text of the agreement, see post, p. 469.
