205. Austrian Government desires to ascertain unofficially whether the American Government would have any objection to Edgar [Page 279] Prochnik as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim as soon as the treaty of peace comes into effect until the definite appointment of a Minister can be made. It is the wish of the Austrian Government to avoid any delay in the resumption of diplomatic relations.12
