1950. Mr. Balfour tells me today, in reply to an inquiry I made of him as to the British Government’s answer to the Austrian peace proposal, that your answer published in today’s evening papers so completely meets with his views that he will probably not follow with idea he had tentatively formed of concerting with our co-belligerents in forming a joint answer. This came out quite informally as conversation and I transmit it at once for your information. If anything further develops I shall inform you.
