1248 [1579]. Your 1248, May 3, 4 p.m. Took up matter immediately and confidentially with Baron Sonnino who thinks that such a declaration will serve most useful purpose and have an important effect. It will shake up Turkey and Bulgaria, and will prove a [Page 226] material aid against Austria and also Germany. He expressed himself as very confident of the material aid which the declaration would render to the Allied cause.
