File No. 6993/5
Minister Egan to Assistant Secretary of State Adee
Copenhagen, July 19, 1909.
* * * I am quite sure that a time will come when it will be expedient, if our Government continues to hold it advisable, to open the question of the Danish Antilles. I am doing my best to pave the way for this. If I should receive leave of absence in September I would take over with me to the United States Captain Cold, late Governor of the Danish Antilles. This will be his first visit to the United States. He is now Superintendent and Director of the Scandinavian-American Line and the principal aide of Admiral de Richelieu, who is, by all odds, the most important man in Denmark at present. If, however, it is not ad visible that I should receive leave in September I shall give Captain Cold a letter to the Secretary of State and a little note to you. He has much information upon the subject and, to the proper people, is very frank in his statements.
