[Telegram.]

The people and army have just abolished the monarchical institutions and proclaimed the Republic, which embodies their aspirations of old. Enthusiasm is indescribable. Provisional government [Page 826] has just been installed as follows: President, Mr. Theophilo Braza; interior, Mr. Antonio Jose D. Almeida; war, Col. Xavier Barreto; justice, Mr. Affonso Costa; marine and colonies, Col. Azevedo Gomez; foreign affairs, Mr. Berdino Machado; public works, Mr. Antonio Luiz Gomes. Public order is everywhere assured by the action of the Government and the solidarity of the citizens. Communications from the provinces are received every moment, saying that the advent of the Republic was hailed with the greatest enthusiasm.

Theophilo Braza.
