File No. 24199/7.

The Acting Secretary of State to Ambassador Bacon.

[Telegram—Paraphrase.]

Mr. Wilson refers to department’s instruction No. 58, and says that Mr. Mann, chairman of the commission, writes that the French chargé d’affaires at Washington has informed him formally that the French Government will accept the statue, which will be placed at Versailles, and will be received and inaugurated in August next. Mr. Wilson directs Mr. Bacon to arrange for the free entry of the statue and to inform the department as soon as possible of the exact date set for the unveiling.
