Sir: Referring to your note of January 27, 1910, numbered 2, inviting this Government to take part in the celebration of the centennial anniversary of Chilean independence and to be represented in the festivities commemorative thereof, the Department takes great pleasure in informing you that the invitation is accepted.

The Navy Department of the United States have arranged to have the First Division of the Pacific Fleet, consisting of the California, [Page 190] South Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Colorado, armored cruisers, and the supply ship Glacier, visit Valparaiso on the 18th of September. The Department of State will instruct the United States delegates which will be named to represent it at the Pan American Conference to proceed to Santiago after the adjournment of said conference. This delegation will be accredited to represent the United States at the celebration of the centennial of Chilean independence.
