Sir: With the most profound sorrow I have to discharge the painful duty of informing your excellency that I have this day received from my Government a telegraphic communication announcing to me the very lamentable demise of His Excellency the President of Chile, Señor Don Pedro Montt, which occurred yesterday at the port of Bremen, Germany, and was caused by heart trouble.
