Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 5th instant, protesting against certain proceedings taken by the police and in the municipal court of Pensacola against the captain and members of the crew of the Spanish steamship Leonora.

I have the honor to say in reply that I have asked the governor of Florida for a report on the matter, on the receipt of which the question will be considered.
