Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 8th instant relating to the readiness of this Government and of that of Great Britain to submit to the arbitration of the King of Sweden and Norway the claims of French citizens arising out of recent events in Samoa.

The Department will await the reply of the German Government upon this question which you have promised to communicate.
