Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge, with much appreciation, the receipt of your note of the 17th instant, transmitting extracts from the journals of the French Senate and Chamber of Deputies relative [Page 468] to the resolution, unanimously passed by both those bodies, thanking the American people for the Lafayette monument presented to France.

It will give me great pleasure to forward copies of your note and of the inclosures to the Senate and the House of Representatives when Congress next convenes.
