Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 11th instant, in which you inform me that the renunciation of his office of minister plenipotentiary of His Majesty in the United States which has been tendered by His Excellency Senor Don Enrique Dupuy de Lome having been accepted by His Majesty’s Government, the [Page 1011] latter has been pleased to designate you as chargé d’affaires ad interim, of which office you took possession yesterday.
In reply, I have to assure you that it will afford me pleasure to take up with you the business arising out of your mission.
