Mr. Fish to Sir Edward Thornton.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 23d ultimo, relating to a willingness on the part of Her Majesty’s government to co-operate with that of the United States in adopting proper measures for the preventing of the abuses arising out of the Macao coolie trade. I have now to say that your note of the 24th of that month seems to dispose of the matter. The information contained therein respecting the action of the governor of Macao, is received with satisfaction.
