British Govt expresses hope US Govt will instruct you remain Nanking subject discretion being given withdraw in case of exceptional emergency and also indicates importance attached to maintaining common front re location chiefs of mission in China.
Dept has informed these Embs US Govt position remains unchanged and that it expects you remain Nanking along with other foreign chiefs mission.
